The Warriors haven’t traded Stephen Curry. There’s no indication they plan to.
But fans apparently have some ideas.
According to HoopsHype, HoopsMatic’s trade machine, 13.3 percent of all trades created over the past 24 hours involved Curry.
That’s a lot of imaginary blockbusters for a player who has spent his entire career in Golden State.
Philadelphia was the most common destination at 21.7 percent, followed closely by San Antonio at 20.8 percent and Boston at 12.7 percent.
The most frequently included return players were De’Aaron Fox, Joel Embiid and VJ Edgecombe.
Again, none of this means anything is actually happening.
It does, however, say something about the mood surrounding the Warriors.
Golden State missed out on LeBron James, failed to land Anthony Davis or Jaylen Brown, and remains largely committed to an aging core around Curry and Draymond Green. Jimmy Butler is recovering from a torn ACL, and Curry is entering the final year of his contract.
There has also been some league chatter that Curry may be frustrated by the lack of major additions, though nothing concrete has surfaced.
So this is mostly fans playing general manager.
Still, when more than one out of every eight trade-machine creations involves the face of your franchise, it’s probably fair to say people are wondering where this thing is headed.
The Warriors say Curry remains central to everything. The internet, as usual, is already exploring the alternatives.
