Are Warriors entering new phase? Insider senses less urgency for blockbuster move

The Warriors have spent more than a decade chasing championships around Stephen Curry.

They may now be entering a different phase.

Speaking on The Ryen Russillo Podcast, ESPN’s Anthony Slater said he senses a “decreased level of thirst” from Golden State to make another blockbuster move this offseason.

“They’re just kind of trying to guide out the Steph Curry era while protecting the future,” Slater said.

The comments come as the Warriors face several major questions.

Curry remains one of the NBA’s elite players, but he turns 39 next season. Draymond Green is entering his age-37 campaign, while Jimmy Butler is 36 and recovering from a torn ACL suffered in late January.

Golden State also must decide how to proceed with free-agent big man Kristaps Porzingis, who arrived in last season’s trade that sent Jonathan Kuminga to Atlanta.

Meanwhile, the Warriors hold the No. 11 overall pick in next month’s draft, and Slater suggested there is growing belief they could keep that selection rather than use it as part of a larger trade package.

Green hinted at a similar outlook during an appearance on ESPN’s Inside the NBA.

“Success may not be, for us at this point, a championship,” Green said. “It may not be realistic for us to win a championship.”

That’s not exactly a franchise waving a white flag.

But it may be a sign that Golden State is beginning to acknowledge what every dynasty eventually faces: the future is coming, whether you’re ready for it or not.
