Warriors Rumors: Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis, Jimmy Butler, Moses Moody

The Warriors would like to keep their frontcourt intact.

General manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. said the team is optimistic about bringing back both Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford next season.

Porzingis, acquired at the trade deadline, is set to hit unrestricted free agency. Dunleavy indicated talks on a new deal are expected to begin soon, per The Athletic’s Nick Friedell

Horford, meanwhile, holds a player option worth nearly $6 million.

“Those are guys that we definitely would love to have back,” Dunleavy said. “They add an element to our team that we haven’t had in the past.”

That element is size, spacing and versatility. Something Golden State has been chasing.

Injury Updates

There is progress, but no timetable.

Dunleavy provided updates on Jimmy Butler (torn ACL) and Moses Moody (ruptured patellar tendon), saying both are moving forward in rehab.

Still, it remains too early to determine when either might return next season.

In other words, patience required.

Optimism or Reality?

Dunleavy remains confident in the roster as constructed.

“I don’t think we came up short because of the talent on the roster,” he said. “It was injuries and things we could control.”

Turnovers were a major issue, he added. Cleaning that up could go a long way.

Not everyone is fully buying in.

As noted by Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area, the Warriors were hovering around mediocrity even before injuries to Butler and Stephen Curry took their toll. The team dropped 22 of its final 32 games, raising legitimate questions about the overall ceiling.

So which is it?

A team derailed by health and fixable mistakes. Or one that simply wasn’t good enough.

That answer will shape everything this offseason.
