West Notes: Kings, De’Aaron Fox, Nuggets, Suns

Kings

Point guard De’Aaron Fox said his jumper from near halfcourt to beat the Magic in overtime “felt good” when he let it go.

“I just tried to get as in front of the basket as I possibly could, and just tried to get it up,” Fox told reporters. “It felt good, and it went in.”

The Kings overcame a 20-point deficit at halftime to rally for the road win.

“I just told our guys basically at halftime: ‘We’re better than this,'” Sacramento coach Mike Brown said. “I said, `I don’t care if we win or lose the game, but the way we’re playing, that’s not us. Let’s at least go out there and fight.’ And to their credit, they did.”

Nuggets

Coach Mike Malone has said he’s glad to see that the Nuggets are taking care of business in their own arena.

“I’m just so happy we’re playing well at home,” he told reporters after Saturday’s win over the Spurs. “Last year, we were not a very good home team. It’s early in the season, but we’re 4-0.”

  • Guard Bones Hyland had an outstanding performance with 24 points in that game. “What I liked most was it wasn’t just the Bones show,” Malone said. “He got everybody else involved. I’m just really happy for him because the last week has been tough on him, dealing with the injury (hip soreness) and being in and out of the lineup. But he went out there and hooped tonight.”

Suns

The Suns fear forward Cam Johnson will miss extended time with a right knee injury, perhaps a torn meniscus, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

“He’s a starter for us,” Suns coach Monty Williams said, via Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic. “It’s a tough blow just to see a guy not be in the lineup, that kind of thing, but that happens throughout the season. You just have to make your adjustments.”

Added shooting guard Devin Booker: “It’s really tough, obviously mostly for him. We’re here with him for whatever he needs. He’s going to be around the team. We say ‘family’ every time we break it down and that’s the situation we’re in.”
