West Notes: Lakers, Anthony Davis, Nuggets, Clippers

Lakers

The Lakers have lost four of five entering Thursday’s game against the Timberwolves, the latest coming at Chicago on Wednesday.Anthony Davis

“We all hate losing,” star big man Anthony Davis told reporters. “There’s no break coming. No help coming. There’s no cavalry. We’ve got to do it within this locker room. We’ve got everyone back now. We just got to find a way to get in the win column.”

  • Davis had his sore left ankle wrapped after the game, though he is expected to play vs. Minnesota. LeBron James, who turns 39 in 10 days, is out on the second night of a back-to-back.

Nuggets

The Nuggets won their third straight away from in Wednesday’s victory over the Raptors, evening their road record at 8-8.

“Our offense has been a lot more efficient (in road games),” coach Michael Malone said. “We’re getting back to playing our style of basketball.”

  • Center Nikola Jokic finished with 31 points and 15 rebounds — and has now scored 30 or more against every Denver opponent.
  • The Nuggets have some trade interest in Pistons guard/forward Alec Burks, sources told Hoops Wire. Burks is believed to be available ahead of the Feb. 8 trade deadline.

Clippers

The Clippers have won an NBA-best nine straight entering Thursday’s game at Oklahoma City, and guard Norman Powell said they’re still figuring things out.

“It’s no summer league, summertime pickup basketball where you’re doing whatever you want,” Powell told reporters after scoring 21 in Wednesday’s road win over the Mavericks. “There’s a system in place, and everybody’s got to figure out their role and how it goes.”
