The Wizards have signed forward/center Taj Gibson to a one-year contract, agent Mark Bartelstein told Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. The deal is for the veteran’s minimum, added Josh Robbins of The Athletic.
Gibson, 37, is 6-foot-9 and was waived by the Knicks on Friday. He cleared waivers 48 hours later, giving the Wizards an opportunity to bring him on.
He has spent the majority of his career playing for coach Tom Thibodeau — first with the Bulls, then the Timberwolves, and finally the Knicks. He also had a stop with the Thunder in there (2016-17).
Gibson appeared in 52 games last season, averaging 4.4 points and 4.4 rebounds. But with a new cast of big men, his days with the Knicks were numbered.
He will join a Wizards big man rotation that includes the likes of Kristaps Porzingis, Rui Hachimura and Daniel Gafford. Washington recently lost center Thomas Bryant, who signed with the Lakers.
