Bucks
No, Giannis Antetokounmpo hasn’t asked for a trade. And no, the Bucks aren’t shopping him. But that hasn’t stopped the rest of the NBA from hovering, waiting for a reason to pounce.
Per ESPN’s Brian Windhorst on First Take, rival teams are “monitoring the situation closely,” hoping Milwaukee’s offseason misfires might open a small window.
The Bucks have seven free agents, no salary cap space, and no control of their own first-round picks for the next five years. On top of that, there’s uncertainty around Damian Lillard’s availability next season.
“This team is limited. They don’t have space, they don’t have picks, they can’t count on Dame,” Windhorst said. “And Giannis hasn’t asked out. But the league is watching.”
Stephen A. Smith added it’s “highly unlikely” the Bucks climb back into true contender status anytime soon.
So while the Bucks remain committed to building around Giannis — and he’s not asking out — the next couple weeks could shape the future of the franchise, and maybe even tilt the league.
Kings
According to Jason Anderson of the Sacramento Bee, the Kings are aiming to add length and athleticism up front, ideally a power forward or center who would allow Keegan Murray to shift back to small forward. Both Murray and Keon Ellis are drawing “strong” trade interest, but Sacramento is reportedly reluctant to move either.
The Kings have been in a bit of roster limbo since their breakthrough two years ago. This draft might be their best shot at retooling without giving up core pieces.
Bulls
The Bulls may finally be ready to break up the band. Per Joe Cowley of The Chicago Sun-Times, the front office has been “more responsive” to trade talks than in past offseasons, with Patrick Williams seen as the most likely piece to be dealt.
Problem is, Williams’ stock isn’t exactly soaring. The former No. 4 pick hasn’t popped, and his 4-year, $72 million contract doesn’t scream “positive value.”
A move could require a sweetener, or a front office willing to bet on upside.
