Cavs Represented At Victor Oladipo Workout In Vegas

It doesn’t mean a whole lot, but it’s probably worth noting that the Cavaliers were among the teams that attended a private workout by veteran guard Victor Oladipo in Las Vegas earlier this week.

Oladipo, 33, was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, but he hasn’t been that guy for some time. Leg injuries have robbed him of his explosiveness and he hasn’t played in more than 42 games since the 2017-18 season. He hasn’t played at all in either of the past two seasons.

Nonetheless, he’s working on a comeback and the Cavs seem to have at least a passing interest, as reported by Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com.

“A source tells cleveland.com that a member of the front office was in attendance for Victor Oladipo’s recent Vegas-based workout,” Fedor wrote.

Multiple other teams were also there. For now, there seems to be no leaguewide rush to sign Oladipo, who says he’s 100 percent and ready to go.

He played in 42 games with the Miami Heat in 2022-23, averaging 10.7 points, 3.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds.

If not Oladipo, the Cavs could fill a roster spot with another veteran player who would accept the veteran’s minimum they have to offer.

Thomas Bryant. Mo Bamba. Tristan Thompson. Kevin Love (likely to receive a buyout from Utah). Javonte Green. Alec Burks. Malcolm Brogdon. Cory Joseph. Monte Morris. Ben Simmons,” Fedor wrote. “Those are just some of the names.”

Signing Oladipo seems like a long shot for the Cavs, but bringing in some veteran help closer to training camp? That is likely to happen.
