A former Cleveland Cavaliers cheerleader who now works as an assistant prosecutor in New Jersey was arrested for drunk driving earlier this year after police found her passed out next to her car in a parking lot.

Bry Atchison, currently employed by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, was arrested on March 8 after an officer responded to a report of a woman lying on the ground in an Edgewater parking lot, according to new bodycam footage released by the YouTube channel @TransparencyBodycam.

The video shows Officer Evan Bringas approaching Atchison at approximately 8:19 p.m. after a bystander reported that she had fallen out of her car moments earlier. The vehicle appeared to have been driven onto a curb, and the engine was still running with the driver’s door open.

Bringas attempted to wake Atchison, who was unresponsive at first but eventually mumbled, “What?” When asked if she knew where she was, Atchison said she did not.

She later referenced celebrating her 30th birthday and said she had been at a bar earlier in the evening.

“I just need to get home,” Atchison told officers. “I’m sorry, I didn’t realize I was this drunk.”

The video shows her stumbling as she tried to stand, prompting Bringas to steady her and begin a field sobriety assessment. When asked to perform additional tests, Atchison said she could not.

She admitted to the officer that she had been drinking and expressed concern for her son, asking multiple times to call his father.

“I smell alcohol on you,” Bringas said before placing her under arrest for driving while intoxicated. She was also cited for refusing to submit to a breathalyzer test, according to the footage.

During transport, she reportedly vomited in the police vehicle. While being processed at the station, Bringas noted that Atchison’s badge identified her as an employee of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

She was later released to her brother. As of earlier this week, her case remained pending.

“Ms. Atchison self-reported an incident that occurred in March, and we are monitoring the matter closely,” Essex County Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson Carmen Martin told the Daily Mail. “Appropriate adjustments have been made to her case assignments as warranted.”

The office declined to comment further, citing internal personnel policies.

According to a 2015 article by Case Western Reserve University, Atchison had joined the Cavaliers’ dance team at the time. She also competed in the 2016 Miss Ohio competition.

No court date has been publicly announced.
