The Pacers will be without breakout guard Bennedict Mathurin tonight as he deals with a right great toe sprain, per Scott Agness of Fieldhouse Files.
Dustin Dopirak of the Indianapolis Star reports that Mathurin is currently in a walking boot and will undergo imaging on Sunday in Dallas, according to head coach Rick Carlisle.
It’s a tough blow for Indiana, which is already short-handed in the backcourt.
With Tyrese Haliburton and T.J. McConnell sidelined and Myles Turner no longer in the mix, Mathurin had stepped into a starring role — averaging 31 points, 7 rebounds, and 2.5 assists while shooting .548 from the field, .500 from three, and .885 from the line through the team’s first two games.
As Alessandro Maggi of Sportando notes, Mathurin joins a lengthy injury list that also includes Andrew Nembhard, Johnny Furphy, Kam Jones, and Taelon Peter.
Carlisle hasn’t offered a timetable for Mathurin’s return, only that the team will know more after imaging results come back.
