The Trail Blazers have signed shooting guard Shaedon Sharpe to his rookie-scale contract, general manager Joe Cronin announced.
Sharpe, 19, is 6-foot-5 and was selected with the No. 7 overall pick after just one season at Kentucky as a redshirt freshman. He as drawn NBA comparisons to J.R. Smith.
As the No. 7 pick, Sharpe is in line to earn $5 million his first season, $5.2 million his second season and $5.5 million his third. The final year of the contract consists of a team option.
The official NBA Draft Guide wrote of his strengths: “Elite combination of size, length, fluidity and scoring ability. NBA-ready shooter with terrific mechanics. Plays with tremendous balance and body control. Adept at creating space for his shot.”
