Whatever tension bubbled over between Warriors coach Steve Kerr and forward Draymond Green earlier this week appears to have been addressed.
Kerr said Wednesday that he and Green have spoken since Monday night’s heated exchange during a timeout against Orlando and that both sides took responsibility for how it unfolded, according to Taylor Wirth of NBC Sports Bay Area.
“Frankly, Monday night was not my finest hour,” Kerr said. “That was a time I needed to be calm in the huddle. I regret my actions in that exchange. I apologized to Dray, he apologized to me, we both apologized to the team. These things happen.”
Kerr described the relationship as familial, noting that conflicts are inevitable after more than a decade together.
“I care so much about Draymond,” Kerr said. “My number one goal is for him to finish his career as a Warrior. I believe that’s going to happen.”
The confrontation occurred in the third quarter, when Green left the bench area to cool off and did not return to the game.
It predictably reignited trade speculation around the 35-year-old, who is averaging 8.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists while shooting 40.9 percent from the field and 32.7 percent from three. His 3.1 turnovers per game have also drawn attention.
Kerr pushed back on any idea that the incident signals a breaking point.
“One of the things I love about Draymond is his loyalty,” Kerr said. “He’s loyal to the Warriors, loyal to me, loyal to Stephen Curry. I’ll go to bat for him as long as I’m coaching here.”
The Warriors, at 15–15, remain a team searching for consistency. Kerr has acknowledged they are an aging group and no longer the dominant force they once were.
But for now, at least, the Kerr-Green partnership remains intact.
