The Knicks continue to be a “motivated suitor” in a potential trade for Jazz star Donovan Mitchell, and they surely are not alone, as relayed by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Right now, the Jazz are “talking throughout the league” on a potential Mitchell deal, though there seems to be no sense of urgency, Wojnarowski relayed. With Mitchell signed through the 2025-26 season, the Jazz have “time on their side,” he added.
Along with the Knicks, the Heat and Nets reportedly have at least an exploratory interest in a Mitchell trade, with the Heat even making some offers, as we relayed here.
Per Andy Larsen of the Salt Lake Tribune, the Jazz have been open to Mitchell trades since even before they sent Rudy Gobert to the Timberwolves — so talks clearly have been ongoing.
So far, it seems no one has offered the type of massive package the Jazz are seeking, Larsen noted in a tweet.
He wrote of a potential Knicks deal, the Jazz are seeking, more picks, an/or pick swaps, as well as Quentin Grimes. From the Heat, Larsen wrote, the Jazz would want more picks and Max Strus.
Others, such as the Raptors and Thunder, have not placed offers that are anything close to what the Jazz are seeking, Larsen added.
Along with all that, the Knicks recently turned away a proposal from the Jazz for Miitchell that consisted of a whopping six first-round draft picks, as well as Grimes, Immanuel Quickley and Obi Toppin, per Tony Jones of The Athletic.
Mitchell, 25, is 6-foot-1 and has spent his entire career with the Jazz. He averaged 25.9 points, 5.2 assists and 4.3 rebounds in 67 games last season. While the Jazz are open to keeping him, it is seeming less and less likely he will return to Utah.
