NBA Notes: Celtics, Justin Jackson, Mavs, Cavs

Celtics

The Celtics are contemplating signing small forward Justin Jackson for training camp, per Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe.

Jackson, 27, is 6-foot-8 and appeared in one game with the Celtics last season, and another six with the Suns. He has also spent time with the Kings, Mavericks, Thunder and Bucks.

“Ever since [December], me and my agent have kind of stayed in touch with the Celtics,” Jackson said. “Kind of built that relationship. Came out here to join and kind of play a little bit of basketball, so it worked out.”

Jackson performed well for the Celtics in summer league this month, and was almost signed to a standard deal last season. The Celtics opted for Nik Stauskas instead. He has since been traded to the Pacers in the Malcolm Brogdon deal.

Mavericks

Forward Moses Wright seemed to make an impression on the Mavs during summer league, leading to speculation he could land either a two-way or an Exhibit 10 deal.

Wright, 23, is 6-8 and spent last season on a two-way deal with the Mavs and appeared in three NBA games. He undoubtedly had his moments this month as well.

“I think he was the most impactful player in the game,” Mavericks summer coach George Galanopoulos said after one outing. “When he’s playing like that — just high energy and active motor, and with an edge and a disposition about him and that mentality — he’s one of the better players in the gym wherever he goes.”

  • G League wing A.J. Lawson was the Mavs’ most impressive summer player and could earn a two-way deal, per Dalton Trigg of Dallas Basketball. Lawson, 22, is 6-7 and averaged 15.6 points shooting 52 percent from the field during summer play.

Cavaliers

Lottery pick Ochai Agbaji showed he has potential as a regular rotation player in his first season with the Cavs.

“We know how great of a shooter he is and how good he is running off screens,” said summer league coach Mike Gerrity, via Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com. “I imagine that is going to be a way that (J.B. Bickerstaff) is going to utilize him come the regular season.”

That said, the Cavs will have some decisions to make at the wing positions. Along with Agbaji, the likes of Caris LeVert, Isaac Okoro, Cedi Osman and perhaps restricted free agent Collin Sexton will all be vying for minutes.

  • In case you missed it, we have the latest on Sexton right here. The Jazz remain interest in pursuing a sign-and-trade, by the way. For now, though, the Cavs are not interested in Mike Conley as part of the return.
