Trade proposal sends Jonathan Kuminga, Bilal Coulibaly to Pacers in three-team deal

Jonathan Kuminga remains unsigned in late August, so naturally, the hypothetical trade machine is starting to warm up.

The latest idea would send Kuminga to the Pacers in a three-team sign-and-trade involving the Hawks and Wizards.

Rohan Roman of NBA on SI put together the proposal, which would look like this:

Pacers receive: Jonathan Kuminga (three years, $54 million), Bilal Coulibaly and a 2033 second-round pick from Atlanta.

Hawks receive: Jarace Walker, Ben Sheppard and a 2027 second-round pick from Indiana.

Wizards receive: Obi Toppin, Quenton Jackson and a 2030 first-round pick swap from Indiana.

Again, this is strictly a proposal. There has been no indication that the Pacers, Hawks and Wizards are discussing such a deal. Still, the Indiana angle is interesting.

Kuminga, 23, remains one of the biggest names available and could give the Pacers another athletic forward alongside Pascal Siakam. Coulibaly would add a young, versatile perimeter defender to a team attempting to keep pace with the defending champion Knicks and the rest of an increasingly crowded Eastern Conference.

Atlanta, meanwhile, would turn Kuminga into two younger rotation possibilities in Walker and Sheppard rather than lose him for nothing. Washington would pick up Toppin and another future asset.

Kuminga spent the second half of last season with the Hawks after being acquired from the Warriors, but Atlanta declined his team option and he has yet to find his next home.

The Lakers have been among the teams linked to Kuminga this offseason. Indiana has not.

So consider this one an idea, and nothing more. But until Kuminga actually signs somewhere, there will undoubtedly be plenty more of them. We are always happy to pass them along.
