Spurs

Stephon Castle’s night ended early Tuesday, but the Spurs don’t believe it’s anything serious.

Castle took a hard spill in the second quarter of San Antonio’s win over the Lakers and was ruled out for the second half with what the team labeled a pelvic contusion.

Afterward, Castle downplayed the injury and said he’s hopeful to play Wednesday at Golden State, per Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News.

“I’m expecting he’ll be pretty sore — more than pretty sore,” coach Mitch Johnson said. “It was good that he walked off and didn’t feel like it was anything else.”

Castle is expected to be a game-time decision, per ESPN’s Tim MacMahon. That said, with Wednesday marking the Spurs’ final game before the All-Star break, it wouldn’t be surprising if San Antonio opts for caution.

Sitting Castle would give him a full week to recover before the schedule resumes next Thursday.

Wizards

The Wizards filled an open roster spot by signing guard Kadary Richmond to a 10-day contract.

Richmond, who went undrafted out of St. John’s, has spent the season with Washington’s G League affiliate, Capital City Go-Go. In 23 appearances, the 6-foot-6 guard averaged 8.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.9 assists, with improved play since late December. He most recently posted 19 points and six assists on Saturday.

Richmond joins Keshon Gilbert as Washington’s two 10-day players. His deal runs through Feb. 20 and pays $73,153.

Meanwhile, rookie Tre Johnson is off the injury report after missing six games with a left ankle sprain and is expected to return Wednesday in Cleveland.

Johnson had started 17 straight games prior to the injury.

Kings

The Kings appear to be leaning fully into the skid.

Sacramento, riding a 13-game losing streak, will be severely shorthanded Wednesday against Utah. In addition to Domantas Sabonis, Keegan Murray, Malik Monk, and De’Andre Hunter, the team has ruled out Russell Westbrook and Zach LaVine, per Jason Anderson of The Sacramento Bee.

That’s six rotation players sidelined in the final game before the break — and a pretty clear picture of where this is headed.
