Free agent shooting guard Sam Merrill has agreed to a contract with the Kings, per Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.
While no specifics were revealed, it’s likely a training camp deal that could set up Merrill for a spot with the Kings’ G League affiliate in Stockton. That said, everyone in camp has a shot to make the team.
The Kings, of course, have also signed guards Matthew Dellavedova (full post) and Quinn Cook (full post) to camp contracts.
Merrill, 26, is 6-foot-4 and starred at Utah State, earning the nickname “the Luka Doncic of the Big West” from ESPN analyst Jay Bilas. He was the final pick of the 2020 NBA Draft by the Bucks (No. 60 0verall), spending his rookie year in Milwaukee and averaging 3.0 points in 30 games.
He spent most of last season in the G League, though he appeared in six games with the Grizzlies after arriving as part of the Grayson Allen trade. Merrill was waived by Memphis in January.
