The Raptors are signing veteran guard Markelle Fultz to a 10-day contract, per ESPN’s Shams Charania. Toronto had an open roster spot, so no move is needed.

Fultz has been working his way back through the G League with Raptors 905 after being claimed off waivers earlier this month. The former No. 1 overall pick has appeared in five games and recently saw his minutes increase.

Over the weekend, he logged 50 total minutes across back-to-back outings in Portland, finishing with 27 points on 11-of-22 shooting and 12 assists against four turnovers, according to Sportsnet’s Michael Grange.

The opportunity comes at the right time.

Toronto is a little thin in the backcourt. Immanuel Quickley is out with a foot injury, and backup Jamal Shead has struggled, shooting 6-for-25 from three over his last 12 games and 31 percent overall.

Fultz is expected to be active Monday against Utah. At minimum, he gives the Raptors another steady ball-handler.

It’s been an uneven career. Injuries have limited Fultz to 255 games across stops with Philadelphia, Orlando and Sacramento.

Still, the talent has never really been the question. Now he gets another chance to show it.
