There’s a growing sense around the NBA that Steve Kerr has reached the end of his run with the Warriors.
And if that’s the case, many believe they know what comes next.
Multiple league sources told Hoops Wire that there is increasing chatter Kerr could step away from coaching and return to broadcasting, where he built a strong presence before taking over the Warriors in 2014.
Front Office Sports also reported that Kerr has emerged as a top TV target.
Nothing has been decided. Not yet. But the tone around the situation is shifting.
Kerr’s contract is up. He has already said publicly he plans to take a week or two before sitting down with owner Joe Lacob and general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. to determine what comes next. He has also made it clear that if he does leave Golden State, it won’t be to coach elsewhere.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Kerr said recently. “These jobs all have an expiration date.”
Inside the locker room, there is at least some skepticism that he returns. Draymond Green hinted as much following the season, saying it “felt like that was it.”
At the same time, players have expressed support for Kerr to continue, and there remains a belief in some corners that an agreement could still be reached.
Still, the outside noise is getting louder.
Before his coaching career, Kerr was a fixture in the media world. He worked as an analyst for Turner Sports, appearing regularly on TNT broadcasts, and built a reputation as a thoughtful voice on the league. He also spent time as the Suns’ president of basketball operations before returning to television, along with writing roles at outlets such as Yahoo Sports and Grantland.
In other words, that path is already there.
Kerr, 60, has spent 12 seasons with the Warriors, winning four championships and helping define one of the league’s modern dynasties.
But the current version of the roster is in transition, somewhere between contending and retooling, and Kerr has acknowledged the uncertainty that comes with that.
That’s what this may come down to.
Not whether Kerr can still coach. But whether he wants to keep doing it here, with this group, at this stage.
A decision is expected soon. Around the league, more and more people think they already know which way it’s leaning.
