The Warriors are done. Now comes the real question: What about Steve Kerr?
After Friday’s loss to the Suns, Kerr didn’t sound like someone with a clear plan.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen,” he said, via ESPN’s Anthony Slater. “I still love coaching, but I get it. These jobs all have an expiration date.”
Kerr said he’ll take a week or two before meeting with owner Joe Lacob and GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. His contract is up. Extension talks never happened during the season.
“If my time is done, I’ll be nothing but grateful,” he said. “It may still go on. It may not.”
The run
Twelve seasons. Four titles. A dynasty.
From 2015 through 2022, Golden State set the standard. Now, things look different. The wins have dipped. The playoff runs have shortened.
Injuries didn’t help this year. Stephen Curry missed extended time. The roster never fully clicked. The result was a play-in exit.
That moment
Late in the game, Kerr pulled Curry and Draymond Green aside.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen next,” he told them. “But I love you guys to death. Thank you.”
Green wants to stay.
“Hopefully I’ve done enough to still be here,” he said.
Curry made his stance clear, too.
“I want Coach to be happy,” he said. “I want him to be excited for the job.”
What it comes down to
Kerr didn’t dance around it.
“I don’t want to walk away from Steph,” he said. “I’m definitely not going and coaching somewhere else.”
So this isn’t about chasing another opportunity.
It’s about whether this one still works. Time to think. Then a conversation.
After that, they’ll decide if this run has one more chapter.
