Timberwolves getting Ayo Dosunmu back for Game 2

The Timberwolves are getting a boost. Now we’ll see how much.

Minnesota announced that Ayo Dosunmu will be available for Game 2 against the Spurs, via the team’s official account. It marks his return after missing time with right calf soreness.

Dosunmu was one of the driving forces in the first round against Denver. He dropped 25 points and nine assists in Game 3, then followed with 43 points on 13-of-17 shooting in Game 4. For the series, he averaged 21.8 points and 4.0 assists while shooting better than 60 percent from the field.

He hasn’t played since last Monday.

The expectation is he’ll be eased back in. Minnesota took that approach with Anthony Edwards in Game 1, limiting him to 25 minutes off the bench after his return from a knee injury. A similar plan for Dosunmu would make sense.

Around the league, teams in this spot tend to play it cautiously early in a series, especially with soft-tissue injuries. The goal is availability over volume.

Still, there’s a push to get him involved quickly.

Some believe Dosunmu’s rhythm is too important to bring along slowly, especially given how he played against Denver. Others would stick to the long view and avoid any risk of a setback.

As for Edwards, he remains listed as questionable with the left knee issue, though he reported no setbacks after Game 1 and is trending toward playing.
