Bucks waive Pete Nance, two others

The Bucks have waived Pete Nance, Johni Broome and Jake Stephens, the team announced Saturday, but still have another roster decision to make before opening night.

Nance is the most notable departure. He played 47 games for Milwaukee last season, averaging 5.4 points and 2.7 rebounds in 15.7 minutes while shooting 42 percent from beyond the arc.

Jake Fischer of The Stein Line reported this week that the Bucks hoped to keep him. His two-year contract was non-guaranteed, and a return on a two-way deal remains possible if he clears waivers.

Milwaukee has an open two-way spot. The concern, according to Fischer, is that another team could claim Nance before the Bucks get that opportunity.

Broome and Stephens had been on Exhibit 10 contracts and are expected to join the Wisconsin Herd. Broome was a second-round pick in 2025 and spent his rookie season with the Sixers. Stephens has played in the G League and overseas.

Guard Marcus Garrett is also likely headed to Wisconsin after signing and being waived Saturday, according to Keith Smith of Spotrac. The Herd acquired his returning rights last month.

Even after those moves, the Bucks have 16 players on guaranteed standard contracts. They must trade or waive at least one before Monday’s roster deadline.

Milwaukee has been exploring deals involving several players. Saturday’s cuts give the Bucks fewer decisions to make, but they haven’t resolved the most expensive one.
