Pacers-Isaac Okoro idea may actually make sense for both sides

The Indiana Pacers probably aren’t making some massive splash this offseason.

Honestly, they may not need to.

That’s part of what makes a recent idea involving Isaac Okoro at least somewhat interesting. Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale suggested Indiana could pursue the Chicago Bulls guard if Chicago becomes willing to move him this summer.

This isn’t one of those fantasy trades where a rebuilding team suddenly gives away a superstar for nothing.

It’s more about fit.

“Indiana also has offense to spare if it means making room for functional ball pressure at the other end,” Favale wrote.

And that’s true.

The Pacers already know they can score when healthy. Getting Tyrese Haliburton back next season changes everything offensively after he missed this past year recovering from his Achilles injury.

Add in Pascal Siakam and newcomer Ivica Zubac, and Indiana’s foundation suddenly looks pretty solid again.

What the Pacers could still use is perimeter toughness and defensive pressure. That’s where Okoro fits.

The former Cleveland Cavaliers wing isn’t a perfect player offensively, but at roughly $11.8 million entering the final year of his contract, he’s exactly the type of low-cost rotation piece contenders quietly target all the time.

Meanwhile, Chicago still appears stuck somewhere between rebuilding and trying to remain competitive.

So no, this probably isn’t the offseason’s biggest rumor.

But in a summer where smart complementary moves may matter just as much as superstar chasing, Okoro to Indiana is at least the kind of basketball conversation that feels grounded in reality.
