The Lakers and Warriors are both expected to explore frontcourt upgrades this offseason. A familiar name may soon enter the conversation.
According to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, league executives expect Kings star Domantas Sabonis to be available on the trade market this summer as Sacramento evaluates ways to reshape its roster.
“As for Sabonis, the Kings’ former All-Star center is another name … that league executives are projecting to be made available once again as part of this summer’s trade landscape,” Fischer wrote.
Fischer added that Sacramento is looking to reduce salary and could receive significant interest in the three-time All-Star.
If Sabonis does become available, the Lakers and Warriors could make sense as potential suitors.
Los Angeles continues searching for stability in the middle after receiving inconsistent production from Deandre Ayton, while Golden State faces questions about its frontcourt depth and long-term plans at center.
Sabonis appeared in only 19 games this past season because of a torn meniscus, but his overall track record remains impressive. The former Gonzaga standout has averaged a double-double in eight straight seasons and has developed into a reliable perimeter shooter.
When healthy, Sabonis remains one of the NBA’s most productive big men and a proven offensive hub.
Whether the Kings actually move him remains to be seen. But as the offseason approaches, Sabonis is shaping up as one of the more intriguing names to monitor.
