NBA Notes: Hornets, Coby White, Warriors, Al Horford, Lakers

Hornets

Coby White isn’t going anywhere.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, White has agreed to a new three-year, $74 million contract to remain with Charlotte after arriving from the Bulls at last season’s trade deadline.

The agreement comes just hours after the Hornets traded LaMelo Ball to the Timberwolves, making White an even more important part of Charlotte’s backcourt heading into next season.

White averaged 15.6 points in 21 games with the Hornets after the trade from Chicago and now projects for a much larger role as the franchise reshapes its roster around Brandon Miller, Kon Knueppel and Naz Reid.

The Pistons and Nets were also reportedly interested before White agreed to stay in Charlotte.

Warriors

Al Horford isn’t ready to call it a career.

Instead, the veteran center is declining his player option and signing a new two-year, $14 million contract with Golden State, according to ESPN.

Horford, who turned 40 earlier this month, said he still believes the Warriors can contend if they get healthy.

“If the group is healthy, if we’re together, I feel like we’re going to compete,” Horford said. “We have a very competitive group.”

The five-time All-Star averaged 8.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists in his first season with Golden State. The new contract means he’ll become just the 13th player in NBA history to play at least 20 seasons.

Lakers

Los Angeles continues to add frontcourt depth for Summer League. And perhaps beyond.

According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, former Syracuse big man William Kyle has agreed to an Exhibit 10 contract with the Lakers after going undrafted.

Kyle averaged 8.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.5 blocks last season for the Orange after previous stops at South Dakota State and UCLA.

The non-guaranteed deal gives Kyle a chance to compete in training camp and Summer League, with the possibility of earning a two-way contract if he impresses.
