NBA Rumors: Heat, DeMar DeRozan, Nuggets, Cam Johnson, Lakers

Heat

DeMar DeRozan may be one of the next veteran names to watch. Particularly when it comes to the Heat.

While nothing appears imminent, speculation continues to build that the Kings could eventually explore a buyout with the six-time All-Star as Sacramento continues reshaping its roster.

If that happens, the Heat are expected to be among the teams with a strong interest.

Miami has been linked to DeRozan several times this offseason, with Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reporting that interest is legit.

At 36, DeRozan isn’t the explosive player he once was, but he can still score in bunches and create his own shot — something contenders are always looking for late in the offseason.

Nuggets

The Nuggets may not be operating like a team worried about the second tax apron.

According to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, Denver has rejected trade interest in Cam Johnson despite league-wide speculation that the club would eventually move salary to create more financial flexibility.

Peyton Watson remains a priority for the Nuggets as a restricted free agent, with reports indicating he’s seeking a contract averaging more than $25 million per season.

League executives have also speculated Denver could eventually listen to offers involving Christian Braun, though there has been no indication the Nuggets are actively shopping him.

In other words, Denver appears willing to be patient rather than make a move simply to save money.

Lakers

The Lakers are still searching for ways to complete the roster after landing Walker Kessler.

According to multiple reports, Los Angeles has continued exploring the trade market. Dalton Knecht and Jarred Vanderbilt are among the names rival executives believe could be available in the right deal.

The Lakers recently picked up two additional second-round picks in the Deandre Ayton trade with Washington, giving president Rob Pelinka more flexibility if another opportunity presents itself.

League sources have consistently indicated Los Angeles would still like to add another wing defender and a veteran backup center.

Jonas Valanciunas remains one possible option if he becomes available, while the Lakers have also been connected to Jonathan Kuminga as they continue looking for help on the wing.

Bottom line? Even after a busy start to free agency, it doesn’t sound like the Lakers are finished.
