NBA Notes: Timberwolves, Jonathan Kuminga, Clippers, Max Strus, Bucks

Timberwolves

Jonathan Kuminga remains one of the more interesting names on the free-agent market, and the Timberwolves may be worth watching.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst recently mentioned Minnesota as a potential destination for Kuminga, saying on The Hoop Collective podcast, “Watch the Wolves in the next couple days.”

Tim MacMahon added that if Kuminga reaches the point of accepting a minimum deal, Minnesota would make plenty of sense.

Ryan Eichten of NBA on SI examined the potential fit, noting that the Timberwolves have an obvious opening at power forward after moving on from Julius Randle and Naz Reid. Kuminga could provide size, athleticism and another scoring option alongside Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball.

The question would be spacing. Kuminga is a career 33.2-percent 3-point shooter, and pairing him extensively with Rudy Gobert could create some offensive issues.

Still, if Kuminga’s market falls to the minimum, Minnesota would offer something potentially valuable: a chance to start for a playoff contender and rebuild his market for next summer.

Clippers

The Clippers have added plenty of shooting, but their revamped roster could be lacking size and physicality.

Cem Yolbulan of NBA on SI identified those as Los Angeles’ biggest strength and weakness following the acquisition of former Cavaliers wing Max Strus.

Strus joins a group featuring Darius Garland, Rui Hachimura, Brandon Ingram, Bradley Beal, Gradey Dick and Brook Lopez. There should be no shortage of players capable of stretching the floor.

The concern is at the other end of the spectrum. Los Angeles has moved on from Kawhi Leonard, John Collins and Ivica Zubac over the past several months, leaving considerably less size and physicality in the frontcourt.

That could still prompt another move before training camp.

Bucks

Life after Giannis Antetokounmpo has officially begun in Milwaukee, and Tre Allen of NBA on SI writes that there are still reasons for Bucks fans to be intrigued.

Milwaukee received Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Kasparas Jakucionis in the Antetokounmpo trade with Miami, while also adding rookies Brayden Burries and Nate Ament.

Herro figures to get his opportunity as a primary offensive option, while Ware, Jaquez and the Bucks’ other young players should have considerably larger opportunities.

Milwaukee also hired former Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins to oversee the reset.

Nobody is confusing these Bucks with the Antetokounmpo-era contenders just yet. But for the first time in years, Milwaukee enters a season with considerably different questions to answer.
