Jalen Brunson isn’t looking around the Knicks’ locker room for someone to blame. He’s starting with himself.
“Everything falls on my shoulders,” Brunson told reporters after Sunday’s home loss to the Magic, via Vincent Goodwill of ESPN. “I just got to be a better leader when it comes to that, when it comes to our guys are ready to go in the right spots. There’s a lot of other little things, but it’s organization on my part.”
That’s what you want to hear from your point guard. What the Knicks would prefer to see is an offense that looks organized without requiring an explanation afterward.
The defending champions are 0-3, the first title team to open the following season that way since the 2011-12 Mavericks, per Goodwill.
Brunson scored 28 points against Orlando, but needed 28 shots and went 1-of-7 from three. The Knicks made just nine of their 37 attempts from deep, then surrendered 40 fourth-quarter points while losing a double-digit lead. So, yeah, there’s enough here to share the responsibility.

“One thing I said throughout the entire training camp, and honestly to this day, is we’re going to see who we are within the first couple weeks of the season,” Brunson said. “So, we’re hitting adversity now. How are we going to respond?”
Nobody expected the Knicks to go undefeated. Nobody expected them to spend this long waiting for a win, either.
