Hawks Rumors: Trae Young, John Collins, Bogdan Bogdanovic

It was a tough way to go out for the Hawks, who lost twice on their homecourt in falling to the Celtics in six games in their first-round series.

But Atlanta showed a new kind of fight under new coach Quin Snyder in the second half of the season, showing again some promise for the future.

“Quin is the future. I believe with him here, this city is going to win a championship,” guard Trae Young told reporters.

Meanwhile, there have been questions about Young’s own future with the organization, as the trade-rumor winds started to blow before the series.

But several sources told Hoops Wire that GM Landry Fields and Snyder are looking to keep the backcourt of Young and Dejounte Murray together for another run — then perhaps re-evaluate before next season’s trade deadline.

“I think I feel good about how we competed and how we played, going up and winning that game the other night in Boston showed a lot about our team character,” Snyder told reporters after the Game 6 loss.

• Sources also suggested that the Hawks’ togetherness increased significantly after Snyder was hired in February. Snyder, a favorite of Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell with the Jazz, is viewed as a players’ coach who gets results.
• Forward John Collins has been the subject of trade rumors for at least the past two seasons. That could again be the case this summer. But for now, he’s happy with the progress made by the Hawks. “Obviously, we fell short on what we want — that Larry O’Brien trophy. We know that we’re built for this. We’re going to be more ready the next time.”
• The Hawks are again expected to test the market for guard/forward Bogdan Bogdanovic this summer, sources said.
