The Nets are set to put together one of the NBA’s tallest lineups, and they think that’s a plus in league that has focused on “small ball” in recent years, as relayed by Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News.
Part of that is by necessity, given the uncertainty surrounding point guard Kyrie Irving.
Along with Kevin Durant, Brooklyn boasts the likes of Blake Griffin, Paul Millsap, LaMarcus Aldridge and Nicolas Claxton up front.
“Obviously Nic’s our young, get up-and-down rim roller guy, but Paul and LaMarcus, they can both hit shots, space the floor, post up, pass,” Griffin told reporters, via Winfield. “Those two guys are really high IQ bigs. So we should lean on that in my opinion.”
Aldridge was equally, uh, big on the idea.
“It’s not a traditional big lineup. Blake can switch a lot. I can switch at times. KD can do it all,” Aldridge said. “I think it’s a big lineup, but it’s not traditional. You’re going to need that. I think teams can play big and play small, and I think having the ability to do both is nice for us.”
More from the NBA
- Both the Spurs and Hornets are above the league roster limit, with the Spurs carrying 17 players and the Hornets at 18, as relayed by Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors. Each has to whittle down the roster to the NBA-limit of 15 by Monday. “While most teams completed their roster moves early, the Hornets and Spurs can afford to take an extra day or two to consider their options without any financial ramifications, since they won’t be cutting a player who has a fully non-guaranteed contract,” Adams wrote.
- The Magic are set up to make a big move before the February trade deadline, given that they possess a massive $17.1 million trade exception, wrote John Hollinger of The Athletic. Orlando is in its first season with Jamahl Mosley as head coach, and has more than $22 million in available cap space.
