Former NBA shooting guard J.J. Redick is joining ESPN as an analyst, as relayed by Joe Reedy of The Associated Press.
Redick, 37, announced his retirement in September. He entered the season as an unrestricted free agent.
He will make his broadcast debut in the studio during the Nov. 3 game between the Nets and Hawks. He will also serve an in-game analyst throughout the season, Reedy noted.
“After 15 years in the NBA, I am excited to take what I have learned on the court and be able to provide my insight and strong opinions about the game I love,” Redick said in a statement. “I am thrilled to have found a place on the biggest platform in sports, ESPN. I look forward to starting my post-playing career with such an incredible organization.”
Redick is 6-foot-4 and was one of the premier outside threats after entering the NBA as the No. 11 overall draft pick out of Duke in 2006.
He spent the first six-and-half years of his career with the Magic, before being traded to the Bucks in 2012-13. He then played four years for the Clippers, followed by two each with the 76ers. He joined the Pelicans in 2019 and was traded to the Mavericks near the end of last season.
“Over 940 regular season games, Redick averaged 12.8 points per game,” RealGM wrote. “Redick was one of the NBA’s most-feared shooters, as he shot 41.5% from behind the arc for his career. In the regular season, Redick buried 1,950 three-pointers.”
Redick had discussed the possibility of joining a contender later in the season, but ultimately decided against it. He had been linked to the Nets, Knicks and several others before retiring.
