Celtics Exercise Options On Grant Williams, Romeo Langford, Payton Pritchard

The Celtics have picked up the fourth-year options on power forward Grant Williams and shooting guard Romeo Langford, per multiple reports, and third-year option on guard Payton Pritchard, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Williams, 22, is 6-foot-6 and averaged 4.7 points and 2.8 rebounds last season, ad is averaging a career-high 9.8 points through five games this year. His upside likely played a role in making the Celtics feel comfortable in trading Tristan Thompson (now with the Kings).

That said, Williams was recently benched by coach Ime Udoka for complaining to a referee.

“I think he did have his fourth foul… [but] when we cried about calls, they were running it out and got too many easy looks,” Udoka said at the time.

Langford, 22, is 6-4 and his early career has been riddled with injuries. He carries career averages of just 2.9 points and 26 percent on 3-pointers, but the Celtics continue to hold out hope that he’ll come around with a completely healthy season.

Pritchard, 21, is 6-1 and averaged 7.7 points on 44 percent shooting in 66 games last season. He would likely being playing a larger role on a lesser team, and the Celtics know that and are happy to continue to oversee his development.

NBA teams have to decide on whether to exercise third- and fourth-year options on eligible players by Monday evening.
