Another Klutch Sports client is reportedly available and guess who is interested? That’s right, the Los Angeles Lakers, starring Klutch-repped forward LeBron James and Klutch-repped big man Anthony Davis.
Actually, that may be a bit overstated. Yes, agent Rich Paul loves to have some of his clients team up — but Paul and Lakers GM Rob Pelinka always say they want what’s best for the player and the team, respectively.
Anyway, the player in question is Hawks guard Dejounte Murray. As we relayed here, plenty of rival execs believe Atlanta will try to move him within the next six weeks. And why not? The Hawks don’t seem to be going anywhere as currently constructed.
So enter the Lakers, who could be making Murray ” a potential target,” per The Athletic’s Shams Charania on FanDuel TV’s Run it Back.
First, the Lakers were linked to Bulls guard Zach LaVine, a Klutch client whom Chicago is desperately hoping to move. The Lakers were the team mentioned most — so much so that Paul had to issue a denial that he was trying to force the Bulls and Lakers into a trade.
Anyway, this is how the business of basketball is played, but from a basketball standpoint, adding Murray would make sense for the Lakers, who again look incredibly average. Problem is, the Lakers don’t have a lot of assets that anybody else wants.
Aside from James, Davis and maybe Austin Reaves, it’s hard to envision the Hawks parting with Murray for anyone on the Lakers’ roster, or even a combination of those players. There would be much better deals out there.
But that won’t keep the Lakers from looking into the idea, even if it’s probably a pipe dream.
