Rival teams believe Hawks ready to try to trade Dejounte Murray

It’s safe to say the Hawks haven’t been anything close to what they hoped. And when that happens, you start to consider roster changes.Dejounte Murray

In Atlanta’s case, that means everyone but Trae Young could be available. Other than Young, the player who may bring the most in return is fellow guard Dejounte Murray.

Well, not surprisingly, opposing teams believe the Hawks will “explore their trade options” with Murray before the Feb. 8 deadline, per Marc Stein of The Stein Line in his extensive weekly newsletter.

What could the Hawks get for Murray? It’s hard to say. He’s a fine player and upstanding individual, but it doesn’t seem like his presence has mattered much in terms of wins and losses (either with the Hawks or Spurs before that).

Plus, there are complications, it seems, if the Hawks and Knicks were to undertake any Murray talks, as we relayed here and was echoed by Stein.

“Can that frostiness be thawed if the Knicks, who boast a cache of trade assets that would get any team’s attention as a potential trade partner, decide that Murray is indeed an ideal guard to pursue as a long-term backcourt partner for a better-than-ever Jalen Brunson?” Stein asked, and that does indeed seem to be the question.

The Hornets, Bulls and Wizards are others who are believed to have some interest in Murray, according to Hoops Wire sources.
