The 28-game losing streak is over. What’s next for the Pistons, besides potentially another long streak?
Well, how about a trade? Or maybe a few?
It’s a distinct possibility, according to James Edwards III of The Athletic. And names such as forward Bojan Bogdanovic, center James Wiseman and guard/forward Alec Burks are the main ones to monitor, sources told Hoops Wire.
“Detroit will make a trade before Feb. 8,” Edwards wrote in his latest mailbag. “I’d bet good money on it. My feeling is that the Pistons will bring in a veteran or two in an attempt to try and right the ship down the final stretch, but I haven’t heard about anything being close to done or on the table as of now.”
While rival teams are high on the Pistons’ younger players, it seems unlikely any of those would be moved.
Obviously, a lot of teams would want Cade Cunningham. I know at least one team that has recently tried to get Ausar Thompson,” Edwards wrote. “(Jaden Ivey) has interest around the league, and so do Jalen Duren and Isaiah Stewart.
“… Now, there remains great interest in Bojan Bogdanovic around the NBA, per league sources. I just have not gotten the sense that Detroit wants to trade him just for the sake of trading him. The Pistons would need good draft picks or multiple solid role players, I believe, to even consider it.
“Alec Burks is an interesting one only because he’s struggled for most of this season, but his track record still resonates.”
And Pistons’ Troy Weaver should take note: Neither Chris Grant (Cavs) nor Sam Hinkie (Sixers) have been a GM since.
