Pacers coach Rick Carlisle has entered the NBA’s health and safety protocol and could miss multiple games, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
The Pacers cancelled their practice Thursday out of an “abundance of caution” related to the NBA’s health and safety protocols, but offered no further specifics.
Carlisle returned a positive test after Wednesday’s win over the Knicks, according to Tim MacMahon of ESPN. He took a follow-up test on Thursday, but the result of that is not expected until Friday, MacMahon added.
Guard/forward Justin Holiday has already been placed in the protocol, though is the only member of the Pacers officially in it at the moment.
Indiana (11-16) is off to an uneven start under Carlisle, in his first season back with the team after 13 years with the Mavericks. He has already seen the roster suffer through an array of injuries and illnesses in the early season.
The Pacers face the Mavericks on Friday, when Carlisle was set to face his old team. Former Hawks coach Lloyd Pierce will replace Carlisle in the event Carlisle needs to miss games, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
The Pacers are reportedly contemplating the idea of unloading veteran starters Domantas Sabonis, Caris LeVert and Myles Turner to retool with eyes on a rebuild.
The Cavaliers could be among the suitors for LeVert, as we wrote about earlier.
