Bulls point guard Lonzo Ball will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and is expected to miss six-to-eight weeks, the team announced in a press release.
Ball was diagnosed with a small meniscus tear in the knee, per Shams Charania of The Athletic. He will undergo the surgery after an “initial period of rest and targeted intervention,” the Bulls announced.
Ball, 24, is 6-foot-6 and in his first season in Chicago, averaging 13.0 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists in 35 games. Along with newcomers DeMar DeRozan and Alex Caruso, Ball has been a big part of the Bulls’ surge to first place in the Eastern Conference.
“While Ball’s diagnosis isn’t great news for the Bulls, the team did get Caruso back in its lineup on Wednesday night following a 13-game absence due to foot and hamstring injuries, as well as a stint in the health and safety protocols,” wrote Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors.
Ball’s absence is also likely to mean increased opportunities for guards Coby White and rookie Ayo Dosunmu.
