Dyson Daniels and Larry Nance Jr. were viewed as sort of “throw-ins,” but also the main pieces, in the Pelicans’ trade with the Hawks for Dejounte Murray.
Well, Dyson and Nance got their revenge, with the Hawks downing the Murray-less Pelicans by a 126-111 count on Sunday in New Orleans.
Murray, of course, suffered a broken hand in the first game of the season and hasn’t played since. New Orleans was also without Zion Williamson, CJ McCollum, Herbert Jones and Trey Murphy.
But the Hawks had injuries issues of their own, missing starters De’Andre Hunter and Bogdan Bogdanovic, and reserve big man Onyeka Okongwu.
Yet Atlanta (3-4) dominated in the second half behind the likes of Jalen Johnson (29 points), Trae Young (23 with 12 assists), Daniels (16) and Nance (14 on 6-of-8 shooting).

Granted, it’s hard to tell if the Hawks are actually headed anywhere in the oh-so-tough Eastern Conference. Even when totally healthy, their ceiling feels like .500. But on this night, they batted a 1,000 and perhaps it’s something on which they can build.
The Pelicans (also 3-4) were led by Brandon Ingram‘s game-high 32 points. Jordan Hawkins chipped in 19.
