The Trail Blazers found themselves in a dogfight on Sunday night, but when the dust settled, it was Shaedon Sharpe who stood tallest.
In a showdown marked by runs and rallies, Sharpe’s late-game poise pushed the Blazers to a thrilling 114-110 home win over the Hawks, notching Portland’s third consecutive win.
Trailing by as many as 16 points in the first half, the Blazers fought back, their resilience on full display at the Moda Center. The Hawks looked sharp early, storming to a 25-9 lead and keeping Portland on the ropes. But Dalano Banton sparked a second-quarter surge, finishing with an impressive 23 points and giving Portland the boost they needed to stay within striking distance. By halftime, Atlanta held a modest 64-56 lead, but momentum was clearly shifting.
The turning point came in the third quarter. Sharpe electrified the crowd with a series of three straight dunks, cutting the deficit and injecting life into the Blazers’ bench. It was a statement: Portland wasn’t going down without a fight. By the time Banton’s three-pointer found the net, Portland had its first lead of the game at 77-76.
The fourth quarter was all about who wanted it more. Atlanta clawed back with a 10-0 run, and Trae Young’s long-range shooting (29 points total — highlighted by back-to-back threes — had the Hawks up 102-101) made it a nail-biter. But Sharpe, showing the composure of a seasoned veteran, drained a shot-clock beating three-pointer with just over a minute left to reclaim the lead at 109-108. Portland leaned on Sharpe’s late surge — 11 straight points– to hold off Atlanta’s last push.
In a game of rallies and resolve, Sharpe’s heroics ensured Portland stayed hot, proving their grit in crunch time.
