The Cavaliers won’t be as shorthanded as the New Orleans Pelicans for their matchup in Cleveland on Wednesday night. But the Cavs will in fact be shorthanded.
Added to the injury report was Darius Garland, who is suffering from groin soreness. He took a beating in Boston on Tuesday and finished the night a miserable 3-of-21 shooting.
But Garland is hardly alone. Sam Merrill, who started in place of Dean Wade and Isaac Okoro, who sometimes start in place of Max Strus … well, just know that Merrill is out again, too. Also out again is Caris LeVert, who is dealing with knee soreness.
So make that four bum ankles (Okoro, Wade, Merrill and Strus), a bad groin (Garland) and a sore knee (LeVert). Put all those body parts together and the Cavs could make a pretty good Frankenstein.
Either way, the Cavs are 15-1 and will still have Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, as well as a handful of reserves who have looked pretty good lately. Of course, there won’t be as many of those reserves, given that some will have to start.
Meanwhile, the poor Pelicans (4-11) will be missing TEN guys, including eight of their top scorers. Other than that, this one is going to be worth the price of admission.
The Cavs will get a much-needed three days off between now and their next game, Sunday at home vs. the Raptors. For the record, they have four games between now and their next matchup with the Boston Celtics, Sunday, Dec. 1 in Cleveland.
