Celtics Edge Timberwolves, Have Now Won Whopping 18 Straight Over Minnesota In Boston

The TD Garden has long been a house of horrors for the Minnesota Timberwolves, and Sunday afternoon was no different. The Boston Celtics edged the Wolves 107-105, extending an incredible streak that has seen Boston win 18 straight home games against Minnesota.Jayson Tatum, Celtics, Timberwolves, NBA

That’s right — 18. You’d have to go all the way back to March 2005 to find the last time the Wolves walked out of Boston with a win. Back then, Kevin Garnett was still wearing a Minnesota jersey, and Latrell Sprewell was barking about needing to feed his family.

On this occasion, the Wolves had their chance. Down two with time running out, Naz Reid got a clean look from deep to end the streak, but the ball clanged off the iron as the buzzer sounded.

Another close call, another miss, and another “L” in Boston for a Minnesota team that just can’t seem to figure it out in the Garden.

And while the 0-18 mark in Boston is staggering, here’s the kicker: it’s not even Minnesota’s worst active road losing streak. That dubious honor belongs to their skid in Toronto, where they’ve dropped 20 straight against the Raptors. For a franchise trying to build toward contender status, these streaks are a glaring blemish.

Sunday’s loss also underscored the Timberwolves’ ongoing struggles this season. Now sitting at 8-8, they’ve been inconsistent, to say the least. The blockbuster offseason trade for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo? So far, it hasn’t delivered the intended results. Chemistry issues persist, and their integration into a lineup featuring Anthony Edwards and Rudy Gobert is still a work in progress.

The Celtics, on the other hand, leaned on their dynamic duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown to get the job done. Both stars delivered in crunch time, as they often do, and Boston improved to 12-4 on the season. It was a gritty performance, but what else is new when these two take the court?

Minnesota will get a shot at redemption on January 2 when Boston visits the Target Center. For now, though, the Timberwolves have to stew over another missed opportunity, another streak extended, and yet another reminder that Boston remains their basketball Bermuda Triangle.
