Los Angeles Lakers rookie Bronny James, fresh off a strong stretch of performances with the South Bay Lakers, will participate in the G League Winter Showcase this week, sources told Shams Charania and Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
The showcase, running from December 19-22 in Orlando, is one of the G League’s marquee events, drawing scouts and personnel from all 30 NBA teams to evaluate top talent.
James, selected by the Lakers with the No. 55 pick in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft, has been steadily progressing in his development with South Bay.
Over his past three games, he’s averaged 20.7 points on 43.1% shooting (26.3% from beyond the arc), along with 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists. His play has caught the attention of Lakers coach JJ Redick, who highlighted James’ decision-making on the floor and his defensive flashes as areas of growth.
“Some decision-making with the basketball, being on ball and making good decisions both as a scorer and as a playmaker,” Redick said after a recent practice, via ESPN. “Continuing to see the flashes defensively of what we’re really excited about.”
LeBron James, Bronny’s father, has been following his son’s journey closely. While recovering from a left foot injury that sidelined him for a brief period, LeBron watched Bronny’s games and shared his pride in his son’s development.
“Just keep stacking the days, keep putting in the work,” LeBron said. “The work always prevails at the end of the day. It’s just great to see him getting back into the flow, getting back to his game, getting back to him just playing free and going out and just playing the game that he loves and knows how to play.”
South Bay’s first game at the showcase will be Thursday against the Greensboro Swarm.
