Lakers, Clippers, Bucks Seeking Center Help, With Plenty Of Bigs Indeed Available

Jonas Valanciunas might be the most “attainable” and desirable center available ahead of the February 6 trade deadline, but he’s far from the only big man drawing attention around the NBA.Jonas Valanciunas, Wizards, NBA

As Jake Fischer of The Stein Line reports, several contenders are actively searching for frontcourt help, including the Lakers, Clippers, Bucks, and Pelicans.

The Clippers and Bucks are particularly in need of reserve centers to complement their respective starters, Ivica Zubac and Brook Lopez, respectively.

Interestingly, Lopez, despite his stellar play for Milwaukee, has been on the trade radar since last summer, with several teams reportedly showing interest. His $23 million salary for the 2024-25 season could complicate any potential move, but it certainly won’t deter suitors.

Similarly, the Warriors are exploring the possibility of dealing Kevon Looney, whose expiring $8 million contract has caught the attention of other teams looking to bolster their frontcourt.

Meanwhile, the Knicks have also emerged as potential sellers in the center market, with Jericho Sims‘ inconsistent playing time raising questions about his future in New York. Fischer also points out that the Knicks previously tested the trade waters for Mitchell Robinson last year, though his injury history might complicate any potential move.

On the other hand, Robert Williams of the Trail Blazers has become a name to watch. Despite his lengthy injury history, Williams is reportedly one of the most coveted bigs available, though Portland may not be eager to part ways with him.

Any trade involving Williams is likely to come closer to the deadline, giving the Blazers time to assess their options.

Other notable names include Nikola Vucevic of the Bulls, who could be moved despite his hefty contract, and a host of role players such as Chris Boucher (Raptors), Day’Ron Sharpe (Nets), Trey Lyles (Kings), Daniel Theis (Pelicans), and Nick Richards (Hornets), all of whom are reportedly available for the right price.

If you’re in the market for a big man, it’s shaping up to be an interesting couple of months leading up to the trade deadline.
