An MRI revealed a bruised left knee for Kings power forward Domantas Sabonis, who is likely to only a handful of games, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Sabonis will be reevaluated after the Kings return from their five-game trip, Wojnarowski added.
Sabonis suffered the injury the Kings’ overtime loss to the Suns on Sunday after colliding with forward Mikal Bridges.
Kings coach Alvin Gentry said after the game the Kings would have to take a “wait-and-see” approach on the injury.
“Obviously, he’s a key to what we’re doing, and, if nothing else, we’re trying to have growth with the chemistry and everything on this team and learning to play with each other, so obviously when he goes down like that, there’s always concern,” Gentry told reporters.
Sabonis was acquired in a trade with the Pacers ahead of the February deadline. He is averaging 18.9 points and 12.3 rebounds in 15 games with the Kings — practically the exact numbers he had been putting up with the Pacers.
“The team is six games out of a play-in spot with just nine games remaining on its schedule, so a lottery finish is a near certainty,” wrote Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors. “The priority would be making sure Sabonis – Sacramento’s big in-season acquisition – is 100% healthy for next season.”
