The Wizards may have more stability than some expected.
Not only is Trae Young widely expected to re-sign with Washington after declining his player option, but Anthony Davis reportedly wants to stick around, too.
As relayed by Dallas Hoops Journal’s Ashish Mathur, Davis has informed Wizards president Michael Winger that he has strong interest in remaining with the Wizards long term.
That could be significant for a franchise that appears intent on building around a new core.

Washington acquired Davis from the Mavericks at the February trade deadline, though he never appeared in a game for the Wizards after suffering ligament damage in his left hand.
Even so, the future Hall of Famer remains one of the biggest names on the roster and is owed $58.5 million next season. He also holds a player option worth $62.8 million for 2027-28.
Meanwhile, Young is expected to remain part of the plan as well.
The Wizards acquired Young from Atlanta in January, reuniting him with senior vice president of player personnel Travis Schlenk, who helped build the Hawks team that reached the Eastern Conference finals in 2021.
Add it all together, and Washington suddenly has the makings of an intriguing foundation.
The Wizards already feature promising young players such as Alex Sarr, Bilal Coulibaly, Bub Carrington, Tre Johnson and Kyshawn George. They also own the No. 1 overall pick in next week’s draft and are expected to select either AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson or Cameron Boozer.
For a team that finished with the NBA’s worst record this past season, the outlook is beginning to change.
And if Davis and Young both remain in place, the Wizards could become one of the league’s more fascinating teams to watch heading into next season.
