Anthony Davis, Wizards in no rush on contract extension

Anthony Davis and the Wizards appear content to let extension talks play out on their own timetable.

According to Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, neither side is rushing to reach a new deal as Davis approaches Aug. 6, when he becomes eligible to sign a contract extension with Washington.

“Don’t spend much time on AD extension in DC,” a source familiar with the situation told Robinson. “They’re in no rush there.”

The report adds that Davis is excited about the upcoming season and remains comfortable with his current contract situation, which includes a player option after the 2026-27 campaign.

Washington acquired Davis from the Mavericks in February, though he did not appear in a game for the Wizards after the trade because of injury. The 10-time All-Star has since expressed confidence about what lies ahead, saying at Fanatics Fest that he expects to play all 82 games next season while predicting Washington will win more than 40 games.

Davis also tabbed No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa as his choice for Rookie of the Year.

The Wizards enter the season with a revamped core that includes Davis, Trae Young and Dybantsa, as the franchise looks to take a significant step forward after an active offseason.

As of today, though, Robinson reports both Davis and the organization are content to focus on the upcoming season rather than accelerate extension negotiations.
