According to Mark Jones of ESPN, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards reached out to NBA legend Michael Jordan for advice on handling double teams.
“I was told by someone in his circle that three weeks ago Ant reached out to Michael Jordan on advice on how to handle some of the double teams and traps that he’s seeing,” Jones said. “He’s been extremely frustrated up until late.”
The Timberwolves reached the Western Conference Finals last season. They have been an average team thus far this season after trading Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo.
One of the top scorers in the NBA, Edwards is averaging 26.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.5 blocks this season while shooting 44.5% from the field, 42.5% from beyond the arc and 83.4% from the free-throw line.
The Timberwolves are 24-21. They are in seventh place in the Western Conference standings.
During the 2024 playoffs, Edwards told NBA writer Melissa Rohlin of Fox Sports that he wanted people to stop comparing him to Jordan.
“I want it to stop,” Edwards said. “He’s the greatest of all time. I can’t be compared to him.”
Edwards may play like Jordan, but he has a long way to go to catch MJ in terms of accomplishments. Jordan won five MVPs, 10 scoring titles, six NBA championships and six Finals MVPs with the Chicago Bulls. He also won one Defensive Player of the Year Award.
“Obviously, they have a lot of the same mannerisms,” Timberwolves guard Mike Conley told FOX Sports. “The moves, the fadeaways, the athleticism, the poster dunks, the blocks, the defensive stuff that he does. But really, just his drive is kinda the main thing. That same kind of work ethic, that same kind of ‘I don’t sleep at all at night because I’m ready to play, I’m ready to hoop.’”
