Cavs Talk: Kenny Atkinson, Koby Altman, Donovan Mitchell, Draft, Dan Gilbert

Yes, Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert is playing a role in what’s happening with the Cavaliers. Did he make the Kenny Atkinson hire? I don’t think so.

Either way, who really cares? This has been Koby Altman‘s team to run since taking over as GM in 2017 (before becoming president of basketball operations).

More important than any of that is the fact the Cavaliers have a coach, and it appears as if their star player is about to sign a contract extension. That would be no less than Donovan Mitchell. The Cavaliers do have a pick in Wednesday’s NBA Draft, of course, and they do have to make a selection. For right now, it comes at No. 20 overall. They can trade the player, by the way, just not the pick itself. So again, they have to take someone, and I think that’s exactly what they will do — and they will keep the someone they take.

That’s just a prediction, of course. We all know this is the NBA and in the NBA, all things are possible. Heck, the Lakers just hired LeBron James‘ friend to coach the team. Oh, I have some thoughts on that in the above interview as well.
