The Cavaliers are giving Rocket Arena a fresh coat of wine and gold for the NBA Cup. Mostly wine, actually.
Cleveland unveiled its new tournament court Tuesday, featuring a predominantly wine surface, gold trim along the sidelines and baselines, and the familiar “C” logo placed over the NBA Cup trophy at center court.
Fans will get their first look at it in action Nov. 6, when the Cavs host LeBron James and the 76ers to open Group Play. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Amazon Prime. So the floor probably won’t be the biggest conversation that night.
The Cavs are in East Group B with the Sixers, Pacers, Heat and Knicks. After opening against Philadelphia, Cleveland visits Miami on Nov. 13, hosts Indiana on Nov. 20 and finishes group play at New York on Nov. 25, Thanksgiving Eve.
That last one is a rematch of the conference finals against the reigning champions. Between LeBron’s visit and a trip to face the Knicks, Cleveland’s Cup schedule has a little more going for it than a new paint job.
The group winner advances to the knockout rounds, with the championship game scheduled for Dec. 11 at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
First, though, the Cavs will try to put their new floor to good use. Beating Philadelphia would make for a nice unveiling.
