The Cavaliers have been making and taking calls ahead of the 2023 NBA Draft, and one player they don’t seem willing to move is center Jarrett Allen.
At least, not for what other teams are offering, according to Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com.
Allen is a season removed from his lone All-Star Game appearance and teams with Evan Mobley to serve as Cleveland’s defensive anchor. He struggled in the playoffs vs. the Knicks, but the Cavs are likely chalking that up to postseason inexperience.
He is also a player who doesn’t need the ball to be effective in a lineup that features Mobley and the backcourt of Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland. So no, the Cavs won’t give him away.
Per Fedor, the Mavericks are among the rival teams that have called the Cavs about Allen. Dallas reportedly is looking to move the No. 10 overall pick, as well as perhaps wings Tim Hardaway Jr. and Davis Bertans.
The Mavs are said to be seeking a center to pair alongside guards Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, who they hope to re-sign in free agency.
Meanwhile, in case you missed it, the Cavs have been searching for ways to move into the late-first round, as we relayed here. They currently own the No. 49 overall pick.
